Cuba has heard some hypotheses regarding solutions to dispose of space debris and would like certain countries to reiterate the results of their investigations.

Brazil believes that whatever country is responsible for the presence of space debris should bear the cost of its removal. This would be monitored through the OOSA.

Afghanistan seconds Brazil's suggestion, and we ask ALL delegate to bear in mind that Space is a communal resource, and it is unacceptable that developed countries exploit the resource in space and leave none to those who are technologically and monetarily unavailable at this point in time.

In that vein, Cuba would like to explore communal or shared logistical methods for space debris removal. For example, the assembly can recommend all countries to include final thrusters in their rockets or other space objects that propel them back towards Earth so that they disintegrate in the atmosphere. The responsibilities of different countries for the current situation can be pursued later; Cuba would simply like to see such measures passed to promote complete international collaboration in removing debris.

Austria is interested about the magnetic net that collects debris.

Nepal, please elaborate. Various methods have now been proposed including
a space net,
legislation for propulsion back to earth,
And a laser destruction mechanism.
If these methods are properly explained, perhaps we can reach the best solution by integration of these methods.

Cuba supports the 2nd option as it seems to be the easiest to implement

propulsion back to earth: over the pacific ocean
shooting atmospheric gas lasers into the path of debris to slow down debris orbit speed.
use magnetic force to push down to earth

Maybe some investment in research would be good. As of right now, there is no ACTUAL alternatives to ASATs. I do have a question though, do countries currently take down any non-functioning satellites aside from the use of ASATs?

Let's not bring the ASATs in here. Cuba would simply like to see a temporary arrangement regarding debris. Research should definitely be a long term goal, but an immediate course of action to ameliorate the situation would be appreciated.

Ok I won't bring them into this conversation. But please tell me the major causes of space debris.
