The Reason China wants to keep weapons in Space

Post by SPECPOL_China on Sat May 17, 2014 12:04 pm

China wants weapons in space because:

    a. it diversifies weapon locations, keeping weapon sites away from other countries missile reach, therefore making the "first strike" capability impossible for China.
    b. it is an effective way to counter the anti-ballistic missile technology.
    c. protects our astronauts and our sovereignty as a nation

For other nations, they already have threats on Earth so weapons in space won't make a difference. Therefore, they have no reason to interfere with China's investment in space and its development.

If no country puts weapons in space, then there is not any need to protect astronauts.
Also, it is completely useless to speak of national sovereignty because the regions of outer space belong to every country, not just one.

If China's astronauts are entering outer space, it is their own choice to risk the possibility of danger, especially since space is a SHARED area. Also, improper use of weapons could completely destroy outer space, so that it cannot be further used for telecommunications etc.

Again, if any nation takes the first step to protect themself like so, the nation they feel threatened by will be given permission to follow suit. Space will become the new battlefield. Cuba is aware that development of space weaponry will not stop if any nations feels threatened by the disadvantage that would make; if all three primary actors agree with each other to stop, i.e. realize the very real possibility of space bombardment and war just as they did in the Cold War, we could ensure the preservation of space and a good agreement.

    argument:

    a. There are ways that countries could take down these weapons too, so "diversifying weapon sites" just makes it slightly harder for countries to disable Chinese weaponry. This is a desperate attempt to justify weaponizing space.

    b. Not really, anti-ballistic missile is mainly composed of kinetic missiles, which cannot be intercepted due to their impressive speed. Again, this reasoning isn't even validated with simple facts.

    c. Lithuania actually agrees that astronauts should be able to hold handheld arms with them for the sake of security, but there is no need for weaponry such as Kinetic bombardment to defend your astronauts and ??sovereignty?? (why do people use this word so much it doesn't make sense).
